Why You Should Insist on Multiple Websites, Not Just One
Our experience shows us overwhelmingly that most contractors benefit from having multiple websites, not just one. The few who follow this strategy have seen their website leads and revenue double, triple and more.
Why do multiple sites work better?
WEBSITES ARE TOOLS. MORE TOOLS IS BETTER!
A website for your contracting business is just that: a tool. A useful tool, because its job is to find people who are interested in using your company, someone who wants to transfer money from his bank account to yours as a trade for tile work. It also serves to reassure that person that your company is worth trusting and that he should not worry about putting money in your bank account. So it’s a ‘Find new business and build bonds with them quickly’ tool.
Now if that’s what a website does, why limit it to just one? Do you do that with your other tools? Do you ever say “I already own one tool, a perfectly good hammer. Why on earth would I ever want to buy a screwdriver, too? I’ll just use the hammer instead!”??? No way!
DOMAIN NAMES ARE POWERFUL; DON’T LIMIT YOUR SUPPLY OF THEM
Despite what some people think, Google and other search engines still put a lot of weight on the exact domain name, the exact website address you have. If you own, for example, ‘Denvertileinstallation.com’, they will logically assume your site is about tile installation in Denver. But they usually limit your site to a maximum of 2 or 3 out of the top ten results, more commonly just one. So if you limit yourself to just one website the most ‘real estate’ on the first page of search engine results pages you can get is maybe 20-30%. But if you own 4 highly similar domains and make them worth looking at, it’s totally possible you can have the first 3 results be from one of your websites, the next 2 from the second and most of the rest from other sites you also own, like ‘installtiledenverco.com’ and ‘denvertileinstallers.com’ or ‘denvertilers.com’. You can legitimately dominate the entire first page of Google or Bing and appear to be the only game in town.
Can’t do that with just one site. Need multiple sites for that kind of dominance.
MULTIPLE WEBSITES LET YOU TARGET YOUR MARKET BETTER
Most tile contractors have a few different sources of new business. They might do commercial jobs, residential remodel work, or possibly some new construction or retail fit up work for general contractors. One website can mention all aspects of what you do, but it can create the impression that you’re too scatterbrained and spread too thin.
Trying to use one tool (or one website) to do every job always ends up stretching the tool beyond its capacity and wastes your time and energy.
By having one website that focuses on just residential remodelling, leaving out commercial work entirely, you can reassure your potential client looking at that website that you really are the right contractor for the job. From the domain name, like ‘kitchentileremodeling.com’ to the content on the site (like articles about kitchens you’ve done, how to handle kitchen remodels, etc.) and even the kitchen tile photo’s, this site only talks about your residential kitchen remodelling, with no emphasis at all on commercial work. It may not land you any commercial work, but it may become a wickedly effective tool at getting more kitchen jobs.
MULTIPLE WEBSITES LET YOU TARGET GEOGRAPHY BETTER
You work in multiple towns, right? And you’re willing to drive from one town to the next to do a job, but you’d prefer not to drive too far, since it’s expensive and time consuming to travel a lot, right?
Let’s say you live in Nearville. You’re willing to work as far away as Farville, but you’d rather not. If you had any choice in it, you’d like to stay working in only the closest towns of Nearville, Closeville, and Convenient City. Your domain names can help. We set you up with ‘nearvilletile.com’ and ‘closevilletile.com’ and ‘convenientcitytile.com’ and then you get more local business and waste less time and energy driving to Farville. Less wasted time and fewer trips to the gas pump = more money and energy left over for you! And you stand a better chance of winning the business that comes from these leads, because your clients would rather work with a local company than one that’s driving in from too far away.
WEBSITES BRING IN MONEY….YOU DO LIKE MONEY, DON’T YOU? MORE WEBSITES = MORE MONEY
If every website worked like a money creating vacuum cleaner, sucking dollars into your bank account, you would very quickly stop asking “Why make more than one website?” and very quickly start asking “How soon can we make more?”
The fact is, they don’t all do that. Many websites are pure expense. They look attractive, but they don’t ‘earn their keep.’ They may be pretty , but they’re costing you money.
If they’re not built right, they waste your money upfront, cost you more than necessary every month and worst of all, don’t make the phone ring and don’t bring new dollars into your bank account!
If that’s the money wasting kind of website you’re familiar with, then it’s only logical you’d want to limit it to the minimum number possible or none at all. Something that’s looking pretty but costing you money might be OK if it’s your love life we’re talking about, but not your business websites!
We understand – You’ve been burned before with underperforming websites.
We want to reassure you that our websites are built to perform, not just to look pretty and cost you money. These are some of the reasons why they work to make money for you:
• No upfront design fees, so no risk of wasting loads of capital on one single site… only to find out it’s useless later
• No wasted time on your part. We understand you’re busy. You can choose from prepared content and have it modified to fit your service offerings. It’s shocking how fast it gets online.
• Sites designed for action. All pages usually have an instant way to get in touch with you or request a quote in a clear and obvious place. Most designers making pretty but useless webpages forget to do this. You pay for their mistake.
• Sites focused on where you want to work, cut down on drive time.
• Sites focused on the type of work you want more of, the profitable stuff.
• Sites that understand the tile business. We know the tile business because we’re in it. We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t.
• Sites that are convincing, that make property owners prefer dealing with you, instead of the other guys. If they’re partway ‘pre-sold’ even before talking with you, so much the better!
• Landing pages that are ready for Adwords campaigns. Most website designers have never run an Adwords campaign and have no idea how to optimize the page, track results and why you should care. Use our service for creating websites and we’ll make them ‘Adwords ready’. (If you haven’t used Adwords yet, the fastest way to explain the program is it’s how Google makes about 90% of it’s revenue – by buying smaller ads on the first page of search engine results. It’s how you can ‘buy more business’ on the cheap without having to wait for organic search to find you).
• Sites that already have SEO ‘baked in’. Search engine optimization is not a ‘sauce’ that you add on top of a badly built site and hope it will save it. It has to be planned in from the beginning, like layout on a tile job. So with our sites you don’t have to pay an SEO company to get dramatic ranking results…saving more money without compromising results. We promote our sites for you every month, so you get the results without paying extra for that service
So insist on getting your share of the pie! Don’t settle for ordinary and boring!
